Episode Recap: Prometheus Hyperscale & the Future of AI Infrastructure in Wyoming

In this episode of Converse-Ations, Sean sits down with Trenton Thornock, founder of Prometheus Hyperscale, to pull back the curtain on one of the most talked-about developments in Converse and Natrona County, large-scale AI data centers.

Trenton breaks down the vision behind Prometheus and how the company is building next-generation data centers designed specifically for AI workloads. Unlike traditional facilities, these centers use advanced liquid cooling systems that drastically reduce water consumption, addressing one of the biggest concerns from local communities. The system operates in a closed loop, meaning the data center itself uses virtually no water beyond basic employee needs.

The scale of the project is massive. Prometheus is planning a 1,250-megawatt facility in the Converse and Natrona County area, paired with a similar project in Evanston. To support that demand, the company will generate 100% of its own power using natural gas, avoiding strain on local utilities while tapping into Wyoming’s existing energy infrastructure.

The economic impact could be transformative. During peak construction, each site is expected to employ up to 2,500 workers. Once operational, the facility will support hundreds of long-term, high-paying jobs, many in technical fields like electrical work, network operations, and systems management. Prometheus is also partnering with Eastern Wyoming College to develop training programs that create a pipeline of local talent, giving residents a direct path into these careers.

Beyond jobs, the project is expected to drive broader economic growth. Increased natural gas demand could boost production across the state, generating additional tax revenue, while private investment tied to the project may support housing, infrastructure, and community development initiatives.

The conversation also touches on key community concerns, power generation, noise, housing shortages, and infrastructure strain. Trenton emphasizes that Prometheus is taking a public-private partnership approach, aiming to invest directly into local communities rather than simply building and operating in isolation.

At its core, this episode highlights a major shift, rural Wyoming positioning itself as a hub for cutting-edge AI infrastructure. While challenges remain, especially around housing and growth management, the opportunity is clear. Projects like Prometheus could reshape the economic landscape of the region for decades to come.
